How to make a custom search engine in your browser

To use a search shortcut, you can set up a custom search engine in your browser or type the url by hand. Where %e equals the engine and %s equals your query, enter the search engine information as such:

In most browsers, specifying the root URL and then your query string placeholder is all you need, so you can set up multiple search shortcuts for all the things you may want to use.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge blocks links to its settings pages. Paste the following URL into your address bar to continue.
edge://settings/privacy/services/search/searchEngines

  1. Click Search engines
  2. Click Add search engine
  3. Put a memorable name in Search engine
  4. Put a memorable shortcut in Shortcut
  5. Input the URL along with the shortcut you want, with %s in the place of your query in URL
    Example: https://search.milesbefore.net/g/%s
  6. If you want to use it as your default search, click the ... menu on the right of the entry and choose Make default


Google Chrome

Google Chrome blocks links to its settings pages. Paste the following URL into your address bar to continue.

  1. Under the Site search heading, click Add
  2. Put a memorable name in Name
  3. Put a memorable shortcut in Shortcut

  1. In the Search Engine Editor heading, click the + at the bottom of the list
  2. Put a memorable name in Name
  3. Put a memorable shortcut in Nickname
  4. Input the URL along with the shortcut you want, with %s in the place of your query in URL

  5. If you want to use it as your default search, click Set as Default Search on the right of the entry


Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox blocks links to its settings pages. Paste the following URL into your address bar to continue.

  1. In the Additional search engines heading, click the Add search engine button
  2. Put a memorable name in Search engine name
  3. Input the URL along with the shortcut you want, with %s in the place of your query in URL

  4. If you want to, put a memorable shortcut in Keyword
  5. If you want to use it as your default search, choose the engine you just created in the dropdown list within Default search engine


Opera
